Most dictionaries define immortal, as “one who is deserving of being remembered enduringly, forever. My favorite is “a person who is exempt from oblivion”. A few dictionaries include in their definition, “those people, who are remembered for their enduring fame.” Fame has no relevance here. We are not seeking to be immortal like our greatest religious, political and scientific icons. Many people achieve relatively brief flashes of fame, both locally and/or broad-based. Yet, within a few decades after passing, their fame subsides, and they are soon forgotten. In our digital world, celebrities are forgotten by the next piece of clickbait. If you follow the guidelines offered, you may be able to achieve a lasting presence.
As an immortalogist, I am developing and practicing a new social science called Immortalogy. Immortalogy is the study of methods, practices and execution of ways to sustain generational linking.
- Being Remembered is the first component in the definition of being immortal.
- Being Inspirational is the second
- Impacting the Lives of Future Generations is the third.
When you scan through the headings of the Forty Core Projects, you will see many that may interest you. These projects are the roads that lead to intensive links with future generations and to the goal of being immortal.
In your immortal campaign. accept that you are the beginning…Ground Zero! The first generation is your children. The second generation is your grandchildren, then great grandchildren, etc. It is even likely that many generations of distant family, friends and the public, are within the scope of our generational linking efforts. Some may have difficulty visualizing our “presence” in third, fourth and generations beyond. Wouldn’t you like to, in some way, have an impact on your great-great grandchildren?
I emphasize two terms:
The first is “Immortal Impact”, about the project’s strength. All projects have impact but at the beginning of each project, I note my assessment of the project’s immortal impact in terms of its ability to strengthen your legacy and presence with future generations.
The second is becoming “Immortal Minded”. When you take a vacation, participate in your religious, social, educational, recreational, community organizations, and/or work-related activities; it is important to incorporate your immortal campaign in these experiences. Instill in your next generations the need to create a lasting record of accomplishment. When you attempt these projects, being “Immortal Minded”, will sustain you through the journey to reach your goal.
